HISTORY :

The spice comes from an Indonesian tree, the clove tree. The Indonesians began trading it as early as 2000 BC, as did the Chinese at the same time.

It was the Arabs who introduced it to Europeans in the 4th century. The Romans discovered it on the Syrian and Lebanese markets and then spread it throughout their empire. In the 17th century, the spice was so rare that its value was close to that of gold!

PROPERTIES :

The antiseptic and anaesthetic capacities of its flower buds are proven, which is why it is recommended for a toothache.
