HISTORY :
Originating in the Middle East, the cultivation of green anise also developed in the East of the Mediterranean basin and in North Africa, then in Southern Europe, Turkey and Asia.
Already used by the Egyptians, the Romans in turn appreciated the scent of green anise in their wine and pastries, as well as the digestive properties of the spice.
The fame of green anise was built up thanks to the Emperor Charlemagne who imposed its cultivation in 812, but also to the abbey of Flavigny where the very famous sweets are still prepared today.
