HISTORY :

The origin of vanilla goes back to the time of the Mayans and Aztecs who already used it to flavour their cocoa-based drinks.

Imported from Mexico by the conquistadors, it won the hearts of the Spanish in 1516. Then it was the turn of the English to be seduced by its delicate aroma, introduced into sweets in 1602. Its world tour did not stop there; in fact, in 1762, a German doctor discovered its aphrodisiac properties which helped it to build its success. Used as a simple ornamental in France in 1812, Bourbon vanilla continued to grow and in 1919 was planted on Reunion Island in order to diversify its resources.

It was a young slave who discovered by chance how to fertilise the flower by hand so that it could be transformed into the world-famous and renowned pod!

In 1925, it became the emblem of Reunion Island by appearing on the coat of arms.

PROPERTIES :

Known as an aphrodisiac, bourbon vanilla has many beneficial properties: it stimulates the nervous system and helps to calm and relax. It contributes to the correct functioning of the digestion. Natural antiseptic, anti-rheumatic and supports muscular effort, we can say that vanilla has more than one trick up its sleeve. It is even said that its sweet smell soothes premature babies by helping them breathe.
