HISTORY :

Licorice is a perennial plant, even invasive if the climate is suitable. Its roots are aromatic. Traditional Chinese medicine already made much of it, as did the ancient Egyptians. This root quenched the thirst of Alexander the Great's armed troops, who had to travel many kilometres between each battle. In the medieval period, people chewed liquorice when they had coughs and colds. It was only in the 18th century that a pharmacist had the bright idea of making a sweet!

As an herbal tea, to drink when you have a sore throat. Prefer the consumption of liquorice root itself rather than industrial derivatives.

It is a powerful digestive. Modern medicine has confirmed its role in lowering cholesterol.
